Ravenna city of art

Ravenna, city of art and culture, boasts a very ancient history.
Once capital of the Western Roman Empire, it was first the seat
of the court of Theodoric, king of the Ostrogoths, subsequently
of the Byzantine esarcato.

Traces of its past glory can still be seen in the various monuments
and religious buildings, eight of which are included in the world heritage humanity protected by UNESCO.

Here, the art of mosaics has found its highest expression, culminating
in the rich iconography of the early christian basilicas. Ravenna is not only
roman and byzantine in heritage, but also rich in medieval and Renaissance
influences; a cultural heritage which offers backdrop, every year,
to prestigious international events.
